Bolton Walking and Outdoors Appreciation Society
Established way back in 2011, BWOAS is a community walking group of volunteers, friends, acquaintances and other members of the public based in the West Pennine Moors area. While volunteers are involved in planning routes, organising the members and navigating, the walks are NOT professionally led or guided in any capacity.
There are generally free outings every Monday and Wednesday evening that take place anywhere around the Bolton and South Lancashire area. Different members take turns in suggesting and leading routes that can be very varied. Some are very easy and accessible, other requiring a little more fitness or experience.
Over the years, hundreds of people have been able to enjoy walks in a safe and supportive environment by joining the walking group. It is currently more popular than ever and there is a great core team of experienced volunteers who help to safely manage the group while out and about. The "regulars" are a really friendly and diverse bunch of people from all walks of life and it is an absolute pleasure to join a walk and get to know everybody.

Please see the Facebook page for specific route details and also have a read of our Safety Guide before booking.
Monday walks are listed as events on the Facebook page.
It's Colin here - I have organised walks alongside the other volunteers and lent my advice and experience with BWOAS now for over thirteen years. I am also a qualified Mountain Leader and operate professionally guided walks in the Lake District, the Peak District and the West Pennine Moors.
There's a clear differentiation between my professionally advertised services as my business, Moors to Mountains, and my voluntary involvement with the walking group.
I am proud to give up my free time once a week to organise and assist with the Wednesday walks. It is very rewarding to be a part of something that helps others to improve their physical fitness, mental well being or general lifestyle, and also provides a way for people to make new likeminded friends.
If you would like to learn more about the FREE group walks organised by Bolton Walking and Outdoors Appreciation Society, simply have a look at the Facebook profile for information on upcoming outings. The Monday walks are viewable as Facebook events. You can book your space on any Wednesday walk from the previous Monday via the TICKET TAILOR site.
