Join me for an informative, exciting and very scenic guided outing around the classic "Edale Skyline" route.

I have decided to host the complete route over two days in order to offer one challenging multi day experience, or two manageable options for anybody with a reasonable level of hill fitness to enjoy in a one day setting.

Day one will take place on Saturday, and is the easier leg, clocking 17km, or almost 11 miles, with 540m of ascent. This is expected to take 7 to 8 hours at a moderate pace.

Sunday will offer a more strenuous experience with 22km, or almost 14 miles of distance, with just under 1000m of climbing along the way and is expected to take 9 to 10 hours.

For the overall weekend, I am offering a day rate of £42.00 per person, or attend both Saturday and Sunday to complete the entire skyline route for £55.00.

DAY ONE

The walk will start with a nice warm up leading northwards out of Edale village beside Grinds Brook. There is a gradual climb beside the babbling stream brook before we reach the exciting but not too technically demanding scramble of Grindsbrook Clough. This is an enjoyable stretch and the party is usually warmed up by this point.

Once we have climbed up onto the Kinder Plateau, we will make our way westwards towards Crowden Tower, subsequently passing through the otherworldly landscape Woolpacks, featuring interesting and somewhat artistic millstone grit rock formations. Woolpacks is one of the most photographable areas within the Dark Peak and is always a massive hit with passers by whatever the weather.

Heading past another massive millstone grit stack known as Pym Chair, we will take the the heather strewn moor and make a direct bearing for the summit of Kinder Low on Kinder Scout. Again, the surroundings are littered with bizarre rock formations. A descent will be made along the Pennine Way past Edale Rocks and Swines Back.

The latter stage of our first day of the Edale Skyline route will lead us over Brown Knoll and along a lengthy flagged path across the moor that eventually joins Rushop Edge, the sumit of which is called Lord's Seat. We will find ourselves at the Pass of Edale and following an easy trail back into the village itself.

As outlined previously, day one will accrue 17km, or almost 11 miles, with 540m of ascent.

This is expected to take 7 to 8 hours at a moderate pace.

DAY TWO

Our second day of trekking will visit the eastern side of the Skyline route and is arguable quite a bit tougher with much more acent gained along the route. Again, we will head northwards out of the village and take the steep, unforgiving climb up to Ringing Roger, a fine viewpoint and millstone grist escarpment.

The next section of the trail is an easy stomp around the eastern edges of the Kinder Plateau, over Jaggers Clough and down towards Hope Cross, marking the spot of an ancient medieval navigation post. The view from here back westwards along the Vale of Edale is truly spectacular and gives a visual taster of what is to come.

There is then a very gradual climb along the route of a Roman road that eventually joins the path to Win Hill.

Here, we will climb to the rocky summit and it is possible to get a truly unique perspective compared to the rest of the Edale Skyline, taking in the Snake Woodland, Bamford Edge and Ladybower Reservoir.

We will make a descent down towards the Hope Valley and call at the conveniently located Twitchill Farm honesty cafe. This is a nice spot to pick up additional refreshments and have a breather. There is then an easy section along the valley before we once again have to start climbing. This is the final slog of the day and is pretty unrelenting!

Once up onto the summit of Lose Hill, we will tackle the entire "Great Ridge", including, Back Tor, Hollins Cross and Mam Tor. This section of the walk offers spectacular scenery around the area and should be on the "to do" list for any hiker who visits the Dark Peak. From Mam Tor, we will head back to the village following the same network of easy paths as the end to the previous day.

Day two clocks in with 22km, or almost 14 miles of distance, and just under 1000m of ascent

This is expected to take 9 to 10 hours.

What to expect when booking a professionally

guided activity with Moors to Mountains.

I have had a number of individual clients book on to a group activity who have been anxious about not knowing the others on the day. Most people who join for the first time are in the same situation, but I assure you that you'll be making new friends and feeling comfortable in your surroundings in no time. Not only am I here to keep you safe and lead the group, I like to engage all participants in interesting conversation and always make a point of providing a friendly and welcoming experience for all my clients.

All Moors to Mountains activities are designed for smaller parties. The number of participants that I allow for will depend on the terrain. But, I find this allows me to give each individual client the maximum attention throughout an activity. Whether this is to answer questions or assisting an individual across a section of uneven terrain.

My promise is to deliver a high level of care and individual attentiveness to each member of the group.

As your guide, I am a qualified and insured Mountain Leader registered with the British Mountaineering Council. I only operate in areas where I have experience of the terrain and local knowledge. Before I received the ML award, I was already active in organising groups walks and wild camping expeditions across the UK from 2011. In that time, I have been lucky enough to spend time out on the hills and mountains with many people of different backgrounds and abilities. This experience has enabled me to develop an extensive knowledge of particular outdoor areas, and a penchant for designing routes that are both scenic and interesting. There are often places of historical or geological interest along the way and I enjoy sharing my knowledge of the landscape, history, industry, wildlife and geology.

All Moors to Mountains outings include some rewarding physical challenge, whether it be distance or terrain.

I also hold current DBS and Outdoor First Aid certificates.

Upon booking a space, please don't overlook the
Moors to Mountains Footwear, Clothing and Equipment Requirements.

Once a place has been booked on any activity...

I will personally contact each client by email with any relevant information to the specific activity. There will also be a link to a Participation Consent Form that should be completed in good time before any activity takes place. This will ask for important medical information, important contact details and also request consent for me to give first aid where necessary, take any photographs (or not) and anything else relevant.

Cheers, COLIN.
